a r t a l f a e. V.
is a non-profit organization formed by a team
of politically independent various artists
that aims to build a monument in Sydney commemorating
the Aboriginal population of Australia.
a r t a l f a e. V. provides moral support for
all international organizations that fight for the rights
of indigenous people and ethnic minorities.
There are many examples in history that,
when politics fails and media only document and manipulate,
the arts perform the role of mediator,
can ease conflicts, cross borders and unite.
Employing the most universal language of the world - art,
a r t a l f a e. V. has established a dialogue with Aborigines,
and pays tribute to their long-lasting culture.
We would like to convince those who are
in power that there exists world interest
in the culture of our ancestors. The need to preserve
it for the future generations is our duty.
a r t a l f a e. V. treats art as another dimension
in the fight for true values in our culture.
Due to its symbolic power, art also contributes to communication
and prompts the actions on the part of political movers and shakers.
The monument commemorating the original inhabitants of Australia
could be a convincing gesture accompanying
the apology by the Australian government
for wrongs committed towards Aborigines.
Australia is the first Western country with a democratic constitution
that was asked by the United Nations' Committee on the Elimination
of Racial Discrimination to explain
the nature of its politics towards Aborigines.
Since the Australian government has to this day,
in spite of numerous admonitions, not decided to establish a compensation-fund,
and now not even shows any willingness to discuss itīs indigenous population
with human rights associations,
artalfa e.V. has decided to establish a
European Reconciliation Fund.
artalfa assumes that through this campaign it can gain a certain influence,
that should help to integrate international human rights into
the Australian constitution and to build a monument honouring the Aborigines.
In any case artalfa will make sure that this sad chapter
of present history of mankind will be put in the field
of vision of general public again.
